At the June 6th council meeting in Westmount negativity was very present about cyclists. Councillor Ikeman said that law enforcement was more aggressive for cars than for cyclists, that he felt the fines should be higher for cyclists and that at present cyclists get away with “you know what” Mayor Trent said that the goal for the city is to have more cyclists but as long as they behave like cowboys it will be very difficult. Patricia Dumais of the WWCA responded that bad cyclists were the minority and that the majority who want to improve the liveability of the planet should not be punished. Along the same vein see the following you tube video describing how New York police handle cyclists.
